World Class event in Canada for the First Time!

World Class Event in Canada for the First Time.

Kingston, Ontario, October 3, 2011. World Business Forum draws high powered professionals from across the globe to the yearly event. This year, for the first time in Canada and exclusive to Kingston, a simulcast of the event will be streamed live from New York, and all for a good cause. The St. Lawrence College School of Business along with the collegeʼs Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team are bringing this event to students and professionals alike October 5th and 6th at the Cineplex Odeon on Gardiners road.

Bill Clinton, Seth Godin, Malcolm Gladwell and a slew of other thought leaders will be streamed live to an audience of students and professionals. Hot topics will be addressed by experts like Robert Rubin who will be talking about the state of the economy and Bill Clinton who will be speaking about current global leadership challenges.

All the proceeds from this event will go towards student and community initiatives like the recent project spearheaded by students which put $70,000 worth of solar panels on the local food bank in order to help the Partners in Mission Food Bank earn $200,000 worth of income over 20 years. SIFE hopes that this is the first of many yearly events in partnership with HSM which runs the World Business Forum every year.

Wahida Lakhani, a former SIFE student and project coordinator says: “This event is a turning point for SIFE and a testament to the calibre of exposure that St. Lawrence College is brining to its community and to its students. Attending the forum has actually been made part of the curriculum for some of our students. Imagine, a lecture from some of the top thinkers of today.”

Members of the community are encouraged to attend the event which will happen October 5th and 6th at the Cineplex Odeon on Gardiners Road. Tickets are $250 for both days and are transferable. Visit www.sifeslc.ca/wbf or call 613-929-0291 for more information.

About St. Lawrence College Our educational philosophy is to work harder to put our studentsʼ interests at the forefront of everything we do. That means, for one thing, delivering relevant, in- demand courses supported by superior faculty and staff, state-of- the-art facilities (including safe and comfortable residences), and a wide variety of support services. The result of our efforts has been both reassuring and exciting for all of us at SLC. The collegeʼs overall approval rating for learning environment, quality of faculty, and excellence in graduate preparation is among the highest for community colleges in Ontario and testimony to our ability to consistently exceed expectations.

About Students in Free Enterprise at St. Lawrence College As a not for profit, student led organization, SIFE is committed to its mission to create sustainable solutions for its community. Currently, SIFE is tackling a number of issues, including financial literacy amongst high-school and college students, as well as at-risk youth. Recently, SIFE spearheaded a project to help Partners in Mission Food Bank acquire solar panels, a new furnace and retrofits to lower utility costs and create a sustainable form of income.
