The Engine of Entrepreneurship supports the development and launching of high school students’ micro-businesses. This 10 week program teaches students to write business plans, purchase and package their products as well as market them and turn a profit.
Upon successful completion of a business plan, we help launch the business with $100 seed money and weekly mentorship sessions.
The seed loan is repaid to SIFE SLC to ensure the project’s sustainability and 75% of the profit is donated towards the restoration of Kingston’s historic landmark– the “Spirit of Sir John A”. The year 2013 marks the locomotive’s 100th birthday; a milestone that will not only be a commemoration of history and innovation, but a celebration of pride and entrepreneurship for Kingstonians.
This project is a winner for everyone involved; the students receive a hands-on education in entrepreneurship that compliments their classroom curriculum with a chance at some fun rewards while the residents of Kingston get to see a local landmark restored to its former glory.
Past endeavours have included pizza sales, milkshakes, and branded water bottles.
